高雄市17歲女學生5月24日從韓國首爾旅遊返台，11日突然發燒、咳嗽、喉嚨痛，雖已過了MERS-CoV兩周的潛伏期，但醫院不敢輕忽，以對待MERS規格將女學生隔離，並送疾管中心檢驗是否為感染MERS-CoV。
高市衛生局表示，未接到疑似個案通報，一般MERS-CoV潛伏期是兩周，沒有潛伏3周才發病的案例；不過，呼籲前往南韓首爾或中東地區，返國後14天內如出現發燒、腹瀉或急性呼吸道等不適症狀，應配戴口罩儘速就醫，並告知醫師接觸史及旅遊史。
這位女學生上個月前往韓國首爾旅遊，前天才出現發燒等症狀，昨天發燒已降到微燒，約攝氏37度，醫院檢查非A型或B型流感，懷疑與MERS-CoV有關，因此比照SARS謹慎處理先隔離。
依據疾病管制署公布最新資料，自2012年9月至2015年6月8日止，中東呼吸症候群冠狀病毒感染症（MERS-CoV）病例全球累積1219名，其中449例死亡；南韓確診病例共126名，其中10名死亡，累計病例數為全球第2高，僅次於沙烏地阿拉伯，疾管署發布提升首爾的旅遊疫情建議等級至第2級。
